CODE
OF CONDUCT

PURPOSE:
SCA
has adopted a Code of Conduct for SCA executive Committee member and members. Its
purpose is toensure that staff comply
with the relevant legislation(s);
contribute to and observe SCA's accountability to individual members and the community
in general,ensure that we are scrupulous
and above suspicion of bias or impropriety in our dealings with both suppliers, members,
members of the public, as well as colleagues and partner organisations;void situations
where duty and personal interest may come
into conflict,embrace the spirit and objectives of expectations imposed upon us as
a charity.
demonstrate probity, civility, and professionalism in all of SCA's duties and functions.
SCA subscribes to the Charity rules and duties & rules imposed upon us by Funders.
VALUES
AND ETHICS:
SCA's
organizational operations and its approach in all dealings with members, partners,
funders, colleagues, suppliers, and the
general public, will be underpinned by the values and ethics set out below:

SCA will embody and reflect these values and ethics and will ensure that the organisation
and its executive committee member the
standards set for them or expectant of them.
STANDARD
OF CONDUCT EXPECTED:
A)
Disclosure Of External Interests
SCA executive Committee member are expected to disclose interests which they have
outside of work which may amount to a
conflict of interest. SCA executive Committee member will be expected to disclose
interests such as:
Work interests You should give details of any work you are carrying out which
may amount to a conflict of interest.
Voluntary interests: You should give details of any voluntary organisations on which
you serve or carry out work or activities for either
in a private, professional, or personal capacity which may amount to a conflict of
interest.
Relative or potential overlap interests: You must give details of any members of your
direct family whom may be actively connected
with a company of organisation with which the SCAdoes business or who are SCA's
approved suppliers or contractors.
NOTE that it is unacceptable for SCA to knowingly do business with companies
or organisations where a close relation of any of
SCA executive Committee member is either a principal profiteer or concerned with the
management of the business without
observing Equality of opportunities or transparent tendering process.
Employing relatives: You must not knowingly take part in or influence the process
of recruitment where a relative is seeking work or
association with SCA.
B)
USE OF CONTRACTORS, CONSULTANTS, OR OTHER SUPPLIERS FOR PRIVATE BUSINESS:
You
should not knowingly make use of your connection with SCA to engage any consultant,
professional adviser, contractor or
other supplier for your private work. If it is unavoidable, then you must ensure that
you are not deemed to seek or receive
unprofessional or unethical preferential terms or treatment.
C)
GIFTS
You
must not knowingly seek or accept gifts which may either compromise your position
or raise questions of probity and ethical
standards. You must follow SCA's rule on accepting gifts. Any gift offered or accepted
in the course of your duties (other than gifts
arising from personal associations which were obtained incidental to work), must be
declared and reported to SCA executive
committee board.
D)
HOSPITALITY
You
should exercise discretion in accepting outside hospitality of any kind in order to
avoid incurring any obligations in turn to
outside parties or agencies which may be construed as affecting your impartiality
or professionalism. You must also avoid
accepting hospitality which may have the effect of compromising you or the SCA.
E)
EXPENSES
All
travel and subsistence costs, mileage allowance, and petty cash disbursements may
only be claimed under SCA's procedures.
Staff must not misuse or abuse such claims or procedures.
F)
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
SCA
executive committee member must at all times behave appropriately and observe standards
of professional conduct and work
within established acceptable boundaries. This means that
You must at all times observe the Confidentiality and Data protection policy, procedures
and laws.
You must at all times observe this code of conduct and other policies and procedures
which regulate work and work environment
and work relations and work standards.
You must at all times observe all operational policies in your area or sphere of work.
You are expected at all times to uphold and observe the principles of Equal opportunities
policy, Health and safety policy, and to
provide a like service in like manner to every one who has call upon our services
or functions. In addition you are expected to
maintain professional standards of behavior at work and with colleagues and business
partners/agencies. You are equally
expected to work, contribute positively and support member's of your team or members
of our organisation.
G)
UNACCEPTABLE PERSONAL BEHAVIOUR
You
must ensure that your private or personal dealings or activities do not bring disrepute
or embarrassment upon the SCA You
must strive at all times to maintain or sustain the good reputation and integrity
of the SCA
SCA does not tolerate possession or use of or dealings in illegal drugs at any time
during your involvement with the SCA
SCA does not tolerate excessive consumption of alcohol and drunken behaviour while
on SCA business or premises.
SCA does not tolerate inappropriate conduct by its executive committee member, members
or users.
SCA expects its executive committee member to act appropriately and professionally
at all times, including in difficult or testing
conditions.
H)
DISCLOSING CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS
All
staff have a contractual obligation to disclose any criminal offence or convictions
which may occur during acting as an executive
committee member of SCA. This will include convictions which are current and not spent.
SCA does not discriminate in its
decisions against executive committee member who may have criminal convictions. However,
SCA is obliged to be aware or to
consider criminal offences or convictions which executive committee member may have
which may either affect their suitability to
their work, or their ability to perform their work, or have an adverse impact upon
the integrity and reputation of the SCA or cause a
breach of any law or enactment.

CONTACT WITH PRESS AND MEDIA
You
may not make any statement to the Press or media on SCA's behalf unless you are authorised
to do so, or unless you have
prior clearance from the SCA executive committee board. Any statements or observations
made must be restricted to the subject
matter for which prior clearance has been given. If you as an SCA executive committee
member or a member are making
statements in your personal capacity, then you must ensure that you personal views
and opinions are not attributable to SCA and
that you are not deemed as speaking in your professional capacity as an executive
committee member or as a member of SCA
J)
BEHAVIOUR AT PUBLIC MEETINGS OR WITH EXTERNAL AGENCIES
You
must not make statements in such outside settings which are contrary with your position
which would tend to raise questions
of credibility of yourself or the SCA or which may tend to cause disrepute against
the SCA You must only speak in consistency with
SCA's policies and standing.
K)
PROVISION OF REFERENCES
No
SCA executive committee member may provide a reference for either another colleague
or third party on behalf of the SCA
unless you are authorised to do so, or you have obtained prior permission from the
SCA executive committee board to do so. There
are serious legal implications concerned with the provision of references which could
have a large financial impact or damage of
reputation to the SCA
CONCLUSION
As
an SCA executive committee member or member you are required to uphold SCA's interests
in all dealings both internally and
with outside parties, to act in compliance with this code of conduct and not to act
in any way or manner which may wilfully damage
SCA's reputation. Any failure to observe or adhere to this Code of Conduct may lead
to Disciplinary action and may lead to
dismissal
